Buying Brass Idols Online in India: What to Check Before You Order
by TOHFA · 9 Oct 2026
More families now buy idols and puja items online, and for good reason: wider choice, clear prices and delivery to your door. Because an idol is something you will keep and worship, a few checks are worth making before you pay.
Real photographs
Look for photos of the actual piece from several angles, ideally with something for scale. Be cautious where every image looks like an artist's render or a stock photo.
Weight and size in the listing
Size alone can mislead. A listing that gives both the height and the weight lets you judge how substantial a piece is. This is also the quickest way to compare two similar idols.
Honest finish description
Handmade brass pieces vary slightly in shade and detail. A trustworthy listing says so, for example that the colour may vary a little, instead of promising an identical piece.
Packaging
Metal idols need protective packing so that details are not bent in transit. Check whether the seller describes how they pack, and open the parcel on delivery, ideally filming it, so that any damage can be reported straight away.
Invoice and payment
Look for a proper GST invoice and secure payment options such as UPI, cards and netbanking. A seller who is open about these is easier to trust, and the invoice helps for gifting and for business purchases.
A real person to ask
Before ordering a larger piece, ask a question. How quickly and clearly a seller replies tells you what to expect if something goes wrong later.
Delivery times
Check the stated dispatch and delivery time, especially before a festival. Order early, as the last week before Diwali or Navratri is always busy.
