Decorating for Diwali with Brass and Polyresin: Entrance, Puja Corner and Living Room
by TOHFA · 4 Oct 2026
Diwali decoration is less about buying more and more about placing a few good pieces well. Here is where brass and polyresin can work in a typical home.
The entrance
The doorway is where Lakshmi is welcomed, so it is the first place to decorate. A Lakshmi Ganesha wall hanging beside or above the door is a traditional choice, with a rangoli on the floor and a pair of diyas on either side.
The puja corner
Keep it simple and uncluttered: the main idol, a lamp and a lota or kalash. A tall brass oil lamp gives the corner a focal point and is lit each evening of the festival. Brass takes on the warm glow of the flame well.
The living room
For a console or a side table, decorative figures work well. Elephant pieces are traditionally associated with Lakshmi and good fortune, and a peacock pair adds colour. Polyresin is a lighter, more affordable material with fine detailing, which makes it practical for pieces that you move around or place on a high shelf.
Polyresin statues offer an exceptional blend of durability, fine craftsmanship, and timeless visual appeal. Made from a sturdy resin compound mixed with stone powder, this versatile material allows artisans to capture intricate details, delicate textures, and vibrant finishes that closely resemble traditional bronze, marble, or wood. Lightweight yet resistant to wear and weather, polyresin sculptures are ideal for both indoor decor and outdoor spaces. They provide an accessible, high-quality way to elevate homes, gardens, and personal altars.

Use brass for what is devotional or used in the puja (idols, lamps, diyas, lotas), and polyresin for what is purely decorative. Keeping that split gives the home a clear sense of order.
Light
Diyas are the point of Diwali. Place them in groups of odd numbers on the window sills, near the entrance and along the steps. Keep them away from curtains and leave no lit lamp unattended.
Keep it restrained
A few considered pieces, well lit, look better than a crowded shelf.
