Lakshmi and Kuber Idol Placement for Office, Shop and Home

by TOHFA · 9 Oct 2026

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, and Kuber is the keeper of treasures. Business owners often keep an idol of one or both at the shop or office. Practices vary by region and family, so use these points as a general guide.

Kuber and the north

North is traditionally associated with Kuber, so many sources suggest placing the Kuber idol in the north or north-east, where the cash box or the safe is kept. He is often placed facing the entrance.

Lakshmi and Ganesha

Lakshmi is usually worshipped together with Ganesha, with Ganesha to the left of Lakshmi. A Lakshmi Ganesha pair on the shop counter or the office reception is common.

At the shop

Keep the idol at a clean, raised spot near the entrance or behind the counter. Light a lamp or incense every morning, and offer a flower. On Diwali, the traditional business ritual is Chopda Pujan.

At the office desk

A small idol or a pocket temple on the desk is enough. It should be kept tidy and away from papers and food.

At home

Lakshmi belongs in the mandir or the living room, in the north-east or the west according to some traditions. Avoid keeping her in the bedroom or near the bathroom.

What matters most

Cleanliness, regular worship and honest dealings are the traditional foundation of prosperity, and no idol replaces these. Choose an idol that appeals to you and care for it daily.
